Saplings are items dropped when a tree is chopped down. Saplings from different varieties of tree have slightly different icons and will not stack together. When placed, they appear as a tiny tree in a capsule, which slowly grows and shatters its container, eventually becoming a full-grown tree.

Saplings appear to need an open space on both sides of them in order to successfully grow into trees. Those with insufficient space have been known to vanish when they try to grow. Saplings will normally grow when placed directly adjacent to each other as long as no construction blocks obstruct their growth.

You can tell what type of tree will grow, as the saplings left side shows the type of bark, and the right side shows what type/colour of leaves. In the photo to the right, the tree will have purple bark with white thorns, and blue leaves.

History

This item was released with v. Angry Koala. Upon release, it did not have a proper name, instead having the placeholder "<todo>". This was corrected with v. Furious Koala. It still registers as a "Strange Seed" when picked up however.
