Stars are the primary points of travel within Starbound. The player can fly to many different stars within their Spaceship, mainly to explore the planets that orbit these stars and obtain various materials. There are different types of stars, each indicating a general threat level of the planets orbiting them. There are Harmless moons and Gates in every system type.

Gentle Stars

Gentle stars are white in appearance, and the planets that orbit them are usually Mostly Harmless. The biomes of these planets can vary, with a majority of them being lush, forest, or desert planets.

Temperate Stars

Temperate stars are orange in appearance, and the threat level of the planets that orbit them range from Mostly Harmless to Risky. The biomes of these planets vary greatly.

Radioactive Stars

Radioactive stars are yellow in appearance, and the threat level of the planets that orbit them range from Moderate to Risky. The biomes of these planets can vary, with a majority of them being radioactive, poisonous, and alien planets.

Frozen Stars

Frozen stars are blue in appearance, and the threat level of the planets that orbit them range from Risky to Extreme. The biomes of these planets can vary, with a majority of them being ice, frigid ocean, and barren planets.

Fiery Stars

Fiery stars are red in appearance, and the threat level of the planets that orbit them range from Extreme to Inconceivable. The biomes of these planets can vary, with a majority of them being dead, volcanic, and magma-covered planets.
